Our staff who from Denmark, name is Rune He wrote about Ojika island's life.

For a long time, I’ve been fond of the idea of travelling to Japan. Japan has always seemed like a fascinating place for me. I decided to travel there, doing workaway, which basically means, you do a few hours of work every day, and then you receive a place to stay and food to eat.

I went to Ojika, because I wanted to experience a nice slow experience first.

Don’t let the ‘slow’ experience fool you. Plenty of things can and will happen on Ojika, but somehow there’s this sense of time standing completely still, that you’ll no doubt experience when you arrive.

It’s a soothing experience, and it can be refreshing to cleanse yourself of everyday stress, obnoxious traffic and huge crowds of people.

On Ojika you’ll find countless beautiful places to see. The more you’re willing to explore, the better. Around every corner and in every nook and cranny of this island, there is something interesting or beautiful to be found.

If you like swimming or fishing, this place will leave you very satisfied, as there are beautiful beaches, blue water and plenty of fish to be found.
Perhaps you’re more into artistic values, like sketching houses and landscapes- Ojika is perfect for this as well.
Even if you prefer spending your time training and lifting weights, Ojika has a super cheap gym you can go to.

If you want to practice japanese, this is also very much a possibility, as the inhabitants of Ojika are super friendly and polite. They’re used to foreigners, thanks to Taiyo-san’s efforts and hard work, so they’ll no doubt meet you with a smile, and you can have a conversation if you so desire.

The workaway itself is amazing. You’re served amazing delicious food every day, and the work you have to do is quite simple and enjoyable.
The staff you get to work alongside, is amazing as well! You’ll no doubt get in touch with Taiyo-san and his family. The inn Taiyo-san is running has one of the most friendly atmospheres I’ve ever seen in a working environment. None of that would be possible had it not been for how much of a great boss Taiyo-san is.
Taiyo-san and his family might invite you to different activities. You might just get to experience something you’d never have, had you visited Japan in a traditional tourist fashion.

So everything taken into consideration- Ojika is an amazing place, to either stay as a guest or a volunteer.
Breathtaking sceneries, friendly people, amazing beaches, the best boss of all time and delicious food

-Rune
