What to do on a sunny day on Ojika island?

What is the best thing to do on a sunny day on Ojika island? Relaxing on the beach? Swimming in the ocean? No, there is something much better than that! Making a bicycle tour and going hiking with your friends.

So one beautiful day, we decided to do exactly this. But right at the start we had to face our first obstacle. The wheel of one of the bicycles was flat and we had to fill it up. But luckily, a man at a gas station helped us to get back some new life to the wheel to make the bicycle work again. And the tour began.

We cycled to the parking lot where a hiking trail should start. But as soon as we arrived, loud noises were heard and men in working clothes wearing protection helmets were walking around. One of them came to us and explained the situation. Right now they were felling trees and it is not possible to pass. When asking when it would be possible to go there, the answer was "In two months." So we could definitely forget about that.

After checking the hiking map again we decided to cycle to the other end of the path. It took some time and some hills to pass, but shortly we arrived at the Akahama beach. And finally, nothing could stop us. The hiking trip began.

Following the path up a steep hill we stopped at a small wood platform to take our first break. Unfortunately, some trees were blocking the view to the valley so there was not much to see. But that was not necessary, we were too focused on eating Pocky and some other candies we brought with us.

After gaining new strength, we moved on and passed a monument as well as some other viewing points. At one point the nature surrounding us changed and we were soon walking through a bamboo forest.

The last challenge we had to face before arriving at our destination was a huge staircase. With a lot of stairs. Really, a lot of. But after arriving at the top, we realized that is was completely worth it. The view was amazing! Right in front of us in the distance we could spot Nozaki as well as the Goto islands. Birds were flying around, surfing on the wind and sitting down on the next branches on top of some trees.

After taking some pictures and just enjoying the view it was time to leave. But not to go home. First we definitely had to explore the Akahama beach where our bicycles were waiting for us.

Because we heard that the Winter sakura trees were on full bloom now, a place where many of them were standing should be our last stop before heading home. And it was amazing. We just came on time to see the beautiful pink blossoms bloom with a deep blue sky in the background. It was perfect. This whole day was perfect and all of us were super happy. This was definitely the best thing to do on a sunny day. A sunny day on Ojika island.
